Leveling up heroes in Task Bar Hero is the primary gate to equipping higher-tier gear (Celestial, Divine, and Cosmic) and unlocking high-tier Rune Tree milestones. However, farming the highest stage available is often not the fastest way to gain experience.

This guide explains how EXP scaling works across the 120 campaign stages and four difficulty tiers, how to calculate your true EXP per minute (EPM), and which stages offer the most consistent AFK progression.

1. The Core EXP Formula & Difficulty Multipliers

EXP rewards in Task Bar Hero depend on three main factors:

  1. Base Monster EXP: Determined by the monster type and stage level bracket.
  2. Difficulty Tier Multipliers:
    • Normal: 1.0× EXP baseline
    • Nightmare: ~3.2× EXP baseline
    • Hell: ~8.5× EXP baseline
    • Torment: ~22.0× EXP baseline (unlocked in endgame)
  3. Rune Tree & Equipment Bonuses:
    • The Growth branch in the Rune Tree provides account-wide flat and percentage EXP boosts.
    • Specific accessory affixes and set bonuses can add up to +35% bonus experience.

2. Clear Speed vs. Stage Level: The Golden Rule of AFK Farming

A common mistake is pushing into a high-level stage where your team takes 90 seconds to clear a wave or frequently dies to elite monsters.

Golden Rule: Speed × Multiplier > Raw Stage Level

Clearing a stage where monsters die in 1–2 hits (averaging 15–20 seconds per wave) produces 2.5× to 3× higher EXP per hour than struggling through a stage 10 levels higher where your tank frequently drops.

Comparing Two Real Farming Scenarios:

  • Scenario A (Push Stage): Act 3-10 Nightmare (Level 58). Clear time: 85s. EXP per clear: 4,200. → ~2,960 EXP / min (plus risk of wipe).
  • Scenario B (Speed Farm): Act 2-25 Nightmare (Level 45). Clear time: 22s. EXP per clear: 2,100. → ~5,720 EXP / min (100% reliable).

In Scenario B, the team earns nearly double the experience with zero downtime.

3. Best AFK Farming Stages by Game Phase

Early Game (Levels 1 – 30, Normal Difficulty)

  • Act 1-15 to 1-20 (Normal): High monster density with predictable melee enemies. Ideal for leveling your initial roster (Knight & Ranger).
  • Act 1-30 Boss (Normal): Excellent transition point to farm starter rare gear while leveling to 30.

Mid Game (Levels 31 – 60, Nightmare Difficulty)

  • Act 2-10 (Nightmare): First major EXP spike. Monsters have low elemental resistances, allowing Mage and Sorcerer area skills to wipe entire waves instantly.
  • Act 2-25 (Nightmare): One of the most efficient stages in the game for gold and EXP balance before entering Hell difficulty.

Late Game (Levels 61 – 90, Hell Difficulty)

  • Act 3-15 (Hell): Compact wave spawns. Perfect for teams using Priest Resurrection and Knight AoE stun to chain-kill without taking burst damage.
  • Act 3-30 (Hell): Optimal for grinding the final stretch toward level 80+ to equip Divine tier equipment.

Endgame (Levels 91+, Torment Difficulty)

  • Act 4 Stages (Torment): High Soul Stone and Decoration material drop potential combined with massive base EXP. Requires full celestial gear and maxed Rune resistance nodes.

4. Using the Interactive Farming Optimizer

To find the exact best stage for your current team level and material goals:

  1. Head to our Farming Optimizer & EXP Calculator.
  2. Filter by your preferred material or level bracket.
  3. Check the Recommended Level versus your current team power to ensure safe, zero-wipe AFK farming.

5. Summary Checklist for Maximum EXP Gain

  • Invest in the Growth branch of the Rune Tree early.
  • Choose a stage where your heroes can clear waves in under 25 seconds.
  • Pair high single-target DPS (Slayer/Hunter) with strong AoE clear (Ranger/Sorcerer).
  • Equip Priest to eliminate party wipe recovery downtime.
